Huntington Church is located at 901 W Huntington Ave, Jonesboro, AR 72401
Why We Fast?
Fasting is a willing abstinence from food for a period of time. Fasting in scripture is often done in mourning over our own individual and collective sin, a cry for breakthrough in a situation, or when God’s people desire to focus on God’s voice by removing temporal comforts.
We fast from the good things God has given us (food and drink) to focus on prayer, lamentation, receiving revelation, and as an expression of compassion and love for those who are suffering. We do not fast in order to prove ourselves more spiritual, but to better focus on God and hear from Him. Fasting is a practice to grow closer to God, a weapon against the enemy, and a command from Jesus for His followers.
“Is not this the fast that I choose: to loose the bonds of wickedness,
to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and to break every yoke?
Isaiah 58:6
