All Church Fast

We would love for you to join our 24 Hour All Church Fast from 7:30pm Tuesday, January 27th through 7:30PM on Wednesday, January 28th. This is a chance for us as a church to pursue God with everything we have! We will meet on Wednesday January 28th at 6:30PM to pray and worship together and then break our fast by taking a meal together after we conclude the gathering.

Childcare and dinner will be provided for this Wednesday Prayer & Worship Night.

Why do we fast?

Fasting is the practice of giving up food or something
we normally consume to focus on God.

“But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to others that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” Matthew 6:17-18

Fasting is referred to numerous times in both the Old and New Testament as a practice of God’s people. Jesus talks about it in the Sermon on the Mount alongside prayer and giving, and in doing so we could argue He endorses it as a prerequisite for the disciple: “When you fast...” (Matthew 6:16) presumes fasting will be a familiar practice in the life of the Jesus-follower, just as prayer and giving is.

While fasting implies abstaining from food, it more importantly means a feasting on God - an utter dependence upon the presence of God beyond the sustenance of food.

How to fast

Here are a few options to consider for how you might fast:

Water Only Fast

The water only fast means abstaining from all food and drink except water. It is the most strict fast we recommend. Some people may also choose to drink black coffee and/or tea.

Juice and/or Broth Fast

The juice and/or broth fast means abstaining from solid food (and shakes, smoothies, etc…) and only consuming liquids like water, juice, and broth. You may choose to limit how much juice/broth you drink to help train your body towards a water only fast.

Intermittent Fast

The intermittent fast means abstaining from food for extended times during the day, and then breaking the fast to eat a small meal. This is a great starting point if you’ve never fasted before and can help you grow towards a juice or water only fast in the future.

Technology Fast

Considering the amount of technology we use and media we consume each day, you may choose to fast from all or most technology usage (i.e. TV, internet, social media, etc…). It is a good idea to limit technology usage at some level during any type of fast. However, if you choose to fast from technology, we recommend also including some form of food and/or drink fast since this is the primary way Scripture instructs us to fast.
